According to Forbes, Asheville, N.C. is on the list for one of the 25 best places to retire in the U.S. With year-round, mild weather and incredible scenery, it’s no wonder it was chosen to be on that list. It's a fantastic place to retire! Don’t let that accolade fool you, though. Asheville has a whole lot more to offer the younger crowds than you might think.
DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING
One of the great things about Asheville is it’s lively and ever-growing music scene. Venues such as the The Orange Peel and The Grey Eagle bring in amazing musicians from all over to entertain the crowds and let you dance the night away. Regular festivals, such as L.E.A.F., allow families to come together for a weekend of music, culture, and loads of fun!
EXCITE YOUR PALATE
Asheville is also known for being a “foodie” city and hosts an enormous amount of yummy, local restaurants with some amazing and talented chefs. Downtown you’ll find one of our go-to restaurants, Limones, serving Latin cuisine and craft cocktails. Trust me, you don’t want to pass up on the Margarita Caliente!
ENJOY A COLD BREW
You also don’t have to go far to find a great craft beer in Asheville. Known as a regular contender for Beer City, U.S.A., beer has become part of the Asheville culture. The area has an abundance of breweries and you can find one almost around every corner! You can also always find kid friendly breweries that have plenty of space for the kiddos to run around!!
Being surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, an outdoor experience can be found in your backyard or just a short drive away! You can find all sorts of activities in the area, ranging from white water rafting, hiking, rock climbing, or zip-lining through the trees at Navitat. Western North Carolina really is a haven for the outdoor enthusiast and adventure seekers!
PLAY HARD, WORK HARD
Asheville has specific plans to grow the workforce and implement more manufacturing, healthcare, and science and technology jobs by the year 2020. AVL 5X5 Vision 2020, which was released by the Asheville-Buncombe County Economic Development Coalition in December of 2015, outlines specific plans for each of the new potential niches. The Asheville area has already begun to see continuous economic growth over the past years and plans to continue that upward trend. Being primarily a tourism driven city, hospitality and food-service has long been known to be the driving force behind the economy. However, with diversification in job sectors leading to growth, there can be a wider variety of jobs for those still in the workforce, which is great news for those who currently live or who are moving into the area.
Asheville is a great place for families and singles alike and whether you are a young professional or retiree, there is something here for everyone! The inclusive and friendly community of “Ashevillians” are happy to welcome you to this beautiful city.
